La Roux - La Roux (2009)

Meaning "red-haired one" in French, La Roux is the synth pop project of flame-haired singer/songwriter Elly Jackson and keyboardist/producer Ben Langmaid. Before they collaborated, Jackson grew up listening to folk legend Nick Drake, and drew inspiration from his sound for her early music. Meanwhile, Langmaid went to school with Faithless' Rollo Armstrong, and the pair recorded as house duo Huff & Puff in the mid-'90s; Langmaid also recorded as Atomic and as one half of Huff & Herb for Armstrong's label, and was a songwriter for the group Kubb. Jackson and Langmaid began working together in 2006, when they were introduced by a mutual acquaintance. Initially, they called their project "Automan" and wrote largely acoustic music before scrapping that name and sound for the sleek, Prince, David Bowie, and the Knife-inspired style they pursued as La Roux. Their debut single, "Quicksand," was released by Kitsune in fall 2008, and earned the band acclaim from the BBC and the Guardian. La Roux supported Lily Allen on her 2009 U.K. tour and were expected to release their first album later that year.

With commercially successful singles "Quicksand" and "In For The Kill" (latterly remixed by dubstep luminary Skream), red-headed, pale-skinned Brixton girl Elly Jackson and her "invisible" co-producer Ben Langmaid irrevocably established their love of 80s pop. This debut album continues the duo’s foray into euphoric retro-dance, nodding non-ironically to the likes of The Eurythmics, Depeche Mode, Heaven 17 and The Human League while remaining impressively contemporary. Opening with a string of sassy tunes--the buzzing "Tigerlily", the synth-heavy "Quicksand" and the slick and fiery "Bulletproof"--it’s apparent that La Roux have colour, class and confidence in spades. The album tapers off a little during the second half--failed experiments like "Cover My Eyes" which features the London Community Gospel Choir don't help--but it still boasts way more in the shape of dynamic killers than sappy fillers. Will Dailey is a Boston area singer-songwriter. He is notable as being the winner of the 2006 Boston Music Award for Best Male Singer-Songwriter. He is also a CBS Recording artist and has recorded albums with Wheelkick Records and JS Music Group. Dailey has released three full-length albums since 2004, and his most recent project, Torrent, involves the artist digitally releasing a burst of new music approximately every 3 months, and then compiling that material, along with bonus material, as a physical and digital audio package twice a year.

Torrent is Will Dailey's adventurous project of multiple music volumes scheduled throughout 2009 and 2010 that is already featuring luminaries such as Roger McGuinn, Kay Hanley and Elliot Easton (The Cars) and has been blessed by Grammy Award winning producer T Bone Burnett. Instead of continuing on the common artist's cycle of releasing a new album every two years or so, Dailey is releasing a burst of new music ever 3-4 months, enabling fans to join Will as he continues forth on his musical journey. Jonna Enckell is a singer, pianist, songwriter and producer. Jonna Enckell started her musical career taking piano lessons at the age of six, studying classical music. She remembers her fascination with melodies and pianos early on. Something caught her parents attention and they introduced her to a piano, she remembers sitting for hours just playing with the piano keys shortly thereafter Jonna began to play and make her own music. Much changed during the years but one thing always remained, her piano. Throughout the years her piano and voice became her main expression. Siren On was formed in 2007.

Jonna Enckell is currently working composing and producing music to various projects and working with various bands. As of 2008 she runs record company SILVER TREE RECORDS. Jonna Enckell's debut album "Siren On" was released April 2008
